Why is Kelly Clarkson suing her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock?

A California labor commissioner previously ruled that Blackstock overstepped his legal limits as Clarkson’s manager

Kelly Clarkson has filed new documents claiming ex-husband Brandon Blackstock may owe her more than $2.6 million in past commissions for overstepping his legal limits as her manager, following a California labor commissioner ruling.

Clarkson’s new documents request a complete accounting of all monies received by Starstruck in connection with his personal services, including commissions, fees, profits, advances, and producing fees.

Blackstock, 47, was accused of unlawfully procuring artist Kelly Clarkson’s work in violation of California’s Talent Agencies Act.

The labor commissioner ruled Blackstock and his Starstruck Management Group violated the act in four instances, including Clarkson’s 2018 stint as a coach on The Voice.

Blackstock — with whom the “Mine” singer shares daughter River, 9, and son Remy, 7 — filed to appeal the decision in December, and a hearing is set for August.

Starstruck sued Clarkson in 2020 for unpaid commissions, accusing her, Blackstock, and Narvel of violating the Talent Agencies Act. Clarkson settled in 2022, paying Starstruck $1.3 million and $45,601.

She relocated to New York City and released her first album, Chemistry, reflecting on her life and future plans.
